Virtual Course in Simulation Education

The Virtual Course in Simulation Education trains clinicians from around the world to be effective simulation educators. This 12‐week, intensive virtual program allows participants to gain an understanding of key components of simulation and medical education.

The curriculum is designed for individuals who intend to use simulation in their medical education roles. Through a combination of independent reading, focused lectures, and small group workshops, the participant will gain a detailed understanding of the simulation modalities used in the education of learners.

During this course, there will be a focus on design and implementation of simulation curriculum as well as learner assessment. This program is designed to prepare healthcare providers to be effective simulation educators without the need to travel while interacting with a world‐class curriculum.

Each Course is limited to 8 participants who will receive a certificate of completion upon attendance at all 12 sessions.

“I learned so much. Great responsive faculty and staff.”

Course Schedule and Syllabus

The Course will meet virtually for 90 minutes weekly with independent reading and project assignments completed prior to each session. Each participant will create a simulation curriculum during the course to be presented at the final session. With the exception of the first introductory session and the final session (project presentations), the weekly sessions will be divided into 45 minutes for lecture and 45 minutes for small group discussions. The small group dialogue will address both content related to the lecture, as well as the opportunity for mentorship and feedback on participants’ curricular project.

We currently have a course overview to share with interested participants. Registered participants will receive the full syllabus prior to the start of the course.

“Overall, the experience was impactful and engaging.”

Attendance

The lecture and discussion portions of each session build upon one another, so attendance in full is required of participants to receive a certificate. While participation in all sessions is expected, we will record the lecture portion of each session which we can share with the you in the case of a necessary absence. You can miss up to two live sessions and still be eligible to receive a certificate by notifying us of your absence within 24 hours after the session was missed and viewing the recording prior to the beginning of the next session.

The small group workshop discussion can be made up through an individual meeting with one of our faculty for a fee of $100. This is not a requirement to receive the certificate.

Prospective Candidates

While this course is primarily designed for clinicians, including within the United States and abroad, it is applicable to all healthcare professionals who are interested in becoming effective educators in clinical simulation. Applicants should be fluent in English (B2 level or higher) and possess the minimum of a bachelor’s degree. Sessions are presented in English. Translation services are not available for this Course.
