We were thrilled to welcome Dr. Umal Ghori to STRATUS at the beginning of 2025 as a visiting scholar.
Dr. Ghori is an adult and pediatric emergency physician from the United Kingdom who came to STRATUS with the goal of receiving formalized training in simulation education. She spent eight weeks with us participating in a custom curriculum designed to meet her educational goals.
During her immersive experience at STRATUS, Dr. Ghori quickly became an invaluable member of our simulation team. She both observed and participated in courses that were being taught in the simulation center and at surrounding hospitals. In addition, supported by mentorship from the STRATUS team, Dr. Ghori created a simulation curriculum that she will use to improve training in the care of pediatric trauma patients.
Dr. Ghori identified that there are limited learning opportunities for advanced pediatric trauma management and recognized the use of simulation as an excellent educational modality to train multi-disciplinary teams in the care of pediatric trauma patients. She identified learning gaps in the management of these rare, high acuity events and developed her curriculum to address these learning gaps. Dr. Ghori’s final curriculum will include 4 modules. During her time in STRATUS, Dr. Ghori received mentorship from our Director of Education to complete the first module of her curriculum focused on the management of severe head injury, which she presented to the STRATUS team at the conclusion of her training.
Dr. Ghori will use the skills she learned at STRATUS to develop the remaining three modules of her curriculum after which she will implement it for her learners. Dr. Ghori shared some highlights of her experience with us below. We are excited to hear updates from Dr. Ghori after she directs her first course with this curriculum!
