2021-22 Simulation Educators of the Year: Meet the Winners

We are pleased to announce the STRATUS 2021-22 Simulation Educators of the Year: Dr. Tanzeema Hossain (faculty), Dr. Suzanne Klainer (faculty), and Dr. Luisa Paredes Acosta (resident)! This award is given each year to recognize effort and excellence in simulation education for both faculty and residents/fellows. The winners are nominated by their colleagues and learners. This year, the winners were selected from over 300 STRATUS course instructors.

Dr. Tanzeema Hossain is the Director of Education for Pediatric Newborn Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), the Assistant Director of Newborn Medicine at STRATUS, and a board-certified neonatologist. In addition to caring for high-risk babies in the NICU, Dr. Hossain coordinates neonatology education and teaches trainees from Harvard Medical School, Boston Children’s Hospital, and MGH. She is an Instructor of Pediatrics at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Hossain’s passions include medical education, high fidelity simulation and the use of on-line education technology to improve clinical care.

Dr. Suzanne Klainer is an anesthesiologist, intensivist, and the Assistant Director of Anesthesia at STRATUS. She is Director of Simulation-based Education and Debriefing for the Department of Anesthesiology. Her non-clinical time is devoted to simulation-based education with a particular interest in non-technical skills. While at BWH, she has received a Safety Matters Award and an award for Clinical Excellence as an intensivist on the front lines of the COVID pandemic.

Dr. Luisa Paredes Acosta is originally from the Dominican Republic, but North Carolina is her second home. She attended UNC Chapel Hill for medical school, and recently completed an internal medicine residency at BWH. Dr. Paredes Acosta is currently a chief medical resident at BWH. Her professional interests include primary care for underserved populations, community engagement, and medical education.

Congratulations to the Simulation Educators of the Year! Thank you for your invaluable contributions to excellence in teaching and learning at STRATUS.
