STRATUS: Simulation, Training, Research and Technology Utilization System

The NEIL AND ELISE WALLACE STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation is a Society for Simulation in Healthcare-accredited center at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Our educators, researchers, and simulation team strive to continuously push the envelope in medical education, all to support safe and effective patient care. With our educational and operational expertise and state-of-the-art facility and technology, we provide simulation-based learning experiences and research opportunities for healthcare personnel from around the globe.

Our History

In 2003, inspired by a vision to introduce a paradigm shift in healthcare education, STRATUS was born. Since then, we have provided high-quality simulation-based education, research, and services within our institution and around the world.

STRATUS opens; team from STRATUS travels to Australia, Malaysia, Korea, and Japan to introduce simulation to the Asia Pacific

Mock Codes, Code Team Training, and first Intern Orientation

STRATUS performs needs assessment for Abu Dhabi Ministry of Health and Sheikh Khalifa Medical Center; tactical EMS courses for the FBI and MA State Police

Center expansion proposal adopted

STRATUS works with Laerdal on the development of SimMan 3G; accredited as an American College of Surgeons Education Institute

Curricula initiated for medicine, OB/GYN, anesthesiology, surgery, radiology, neurology, and DFCI

First Director of Education and Research; first Simulation Fellow

SRM/STRATUS opens at SRM University and Medical Center in Chennai, India; conducts first pulmonary hypertension program for Lung RX, Inc.

STRATUS opens the first simulation center in Kazakhstan for the Astana Department of Health; develops a simulation-based Peri-Partum Complications Course with the Argentinean Ministry of Health

New England Journal of Medicine publishes first simulation-based research paper conducted at STRATUS; STRATUS hosts its first international fellow from Saudi Arabia

Non-technical skills research lab opens at STRATUS

STRATUS receives NSBRI/NASA grant to study non-technical skills for long duration space missions
