American Heart Association Certification Training

Clinicians can now complete three American Heart Association (AHA) certification/recertification trainings through a combination of online cognitive learning and an in-person skills check on a voice-assisted manikin at the STRATUS Center. The courses are self-directed, and the manikin station will provide real-time feedback and debriefing to assist you. These courses include:

  • HeartCode® Complete Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • HeartCode® Complete Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
  • HeartCode® Complete Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

The HeartCode® Complete program is an AHA program. Your ecard will be issued by the AHA.

How It Works

The STRATUS Center registration process enrolls you in the HeartCode® Complete course of your choice. There are two components to each course:

  • The online cognitive modules for your course will be available 24 hours a day/7 days a week. It will take approximately 2 hours to complete. You do not have to complete this portion in one sitting and can save your work as you go.
  • The STRATUS skills check slots are currently available during our normal business hours – 8am to 4:30pm. You will need to reserve a slot to complete your self-directed skills session at the STRATUS Center during registration and will have 30 minutes to complete it individually (not part of a group).

You will not be able to do the skills check at the STRATUS Center until the online cognitive modules have been completed. You will see within your online course that the skills session is locked until your cognitive work is completed.

Scheduling Guidelines and Process

Please be careful to select a STRATUS skills check session that leaves you enough time to realistically complete the cognitive online module(s) PRIOR to your attendance at the STRATUS Center. Otherwise, you will risk needing to reschedule your skills session. Please be aware that there are a limited number of slots and cancelations will not only impact someone else’s ability to complete their skills session, but also potentially incur a cancelation/rescheduling fee.

For other programs we run, we encourage people NOT to schedule immediately after a clinical shift (which may run long) or an overnight shift (when you may be tired), as these increase the likelihood of needing to reschedule.

When you are ready to begin your certification/recertification training, follow these simple steps:

  1. Complete the STRATUS registration process. Follow all instructions to register for the AHA online module(s) and schedule your in-person skills check at STRATUS.
  2. Check your email (including your spam folder). Once you’ve completed the STRATUS registration process, you’ll receive emails from a variety sources including: 1) Authorize.net with a receipt if you paid via a credit card; 2) BWHSTRATUSPrograms@mgb.org confirming your STRATUS Center skills check day/time along with additional details, as well as a reminder email; and 3) RQI Partners and RQI1Stop (donotreply@rqi1stop.com) with your online AHA HeartCode® cognitive course log in credentials, certification, etc. KEEP ALL OF THESE EMAILS. PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 3 BUSINESS DAYS FOR THE RQI PARTNERS AND RQI1STOP EMAIL TO ARRIVE. You will NOT be able to access AHA HeartCode® online cognitive modules until you receive the RQI Partners and RQI1Stop email.
  3. Complete the cognitive modules first. Use the information in the RQI Partners and RQI1Stop email to log into the AHA HeartCode® site and complete the online module(s).
  4. Complete your STRATUS skills check. You will not be able to do the skills check at the STRATUS Center until the AHA HeartCode® cognitive module(s) is complete. Once you’ve completed the cognitive component and the skills session is unlocked, come to the STRATUS Center at the scheduled day/time to complete your skills check. You will log into the simulation station at the STRATUS Center using the password you created.
  5. You’re done! Once each skill has been completed successfully, you will exit the course and claim your ecard. You cannot print from the station, but you can email the ecard to yourself. You can also log back into your course from any digital device and save the ecard. You will have access to your ecard for 2 years by using the URL provided in the RQI Partners and RQI1Stop email and the password you created.

If you want to complete multiple different certifications, please repeat the process above for each course.

Fees

The cost of each certification, including both the online module and skills check, is:

HeartCode® Complete Basic Life Support (BLS)
$90

HeartCode® Complete Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
$275

HeartCode® Complete Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Fees are subject to change and are final once the registration is complete.
