EM Fellowship in Medical Simulation

STRATUS offers a two-year Emergency Medicine (EM) Fellowship in Medical Simulation for physicians who have completed an ACGME-accredited Emergency Medicine residency and are board-eligible/board-certified. Our Fellowship is accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare (SSH).

During this hybrid program, Fellows will learn and practice all aspects of simulation-based education and research, with a primary role at the STRATUS Center for Medical Simulation. Fellows will also complete a Master of Science in Health Professions Education at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, and will have an appointment as a postdoctoral research fellow at both Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Fellowship Activities

Throughout the Fellowship, Fellows will have an active role in all STRATUS educational and operational activities including:

  • Develop, implement, debrief, and assess simulation-based curricula
  • Become proficient in areas of simulation, including design and operations
  • Build analytic skills and learn about the path to becoming an independent researcher
  • Design, develop and execute their own simulation idea through a capstone project
  • Participate in STRATUS team meetings and research seminars

Mentorship

STRATUS recognizes that Fellows are trainees working in an apprenticeship mode in preparation for a professional career as a clinician-educator. The STRATUS senior staff works closely with the Fellows to identify specific goals for professional growth and build a mentoring team. Fellows are also expected to function responsibly and autonomously within STRATUS and the complex environment of Harvard Medical School and affiliated institutions.
