Meet the Fellows

Since the start of our International Fellowship in Clinical Simulation in 2014, we are proud to have hosted over 20 talented clinicians from around the world with a range of specialties, including nursing, emergency medicine, anesthesia, pediatrics, and more.

Since completing the fellowship, Fellows have achieved hospital and university leadership roles including Director of Academic and Training Affairs, Executive Director of Curriculum and Training, Simulation and Skill Development Lead, Medical Simulation Instructor, and more.

2022-2023

Afaf Alblooshi, PhD, MMSc-Med Ed, Mbb.ch

Specialty: Pediatrics

Dr. Afaf Sulaiman Alblooshi is a physician with expertise in Pediatric Respiratory Diseases and Medical Education. Dr Alblooshi completed her MD in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2005. In her postgraduate studies at the University of Western Australia, she obtained a graduate certificate in Pediatric Respiratory Sciences in 2010 and a PhD in the field of Pediatric Respiratory Diseases in 2013. Dr. Alblooshi completed a Masters in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School in 2022.

Dr Alblooshi worked as a physician at the UAE Ministry of Health and as an educator and clinical researcher at the UAE University at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Her research interests range from medical education to childhood health issues including under- and overweight children, childhood obesity, and childhood asthma and other respiratory diseases.

Faten Alradini

Faten Abdullah AlRadini, SBFM, MedEd, MD

Dr. Faten Abdullah AlRadini is a senior healthcare professional with over 15 years of experience in the healthcare and education sectors. She is a passionate executive and has over 10 years of experience in leadership in Medical Education.

Dr. AlRadini is a consultant for Family Medicine and Medical Education. She works as an Assistant Professor at the College of Medicine, Princess Nourah bint Abdulrahman University (PNU), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Faten is qualified with the Saudi and Arab board of Family medicine. She has a master’s degree in medical education from Durham University School of Medicine (UK).

Dr. AlRadini’s home institution, PNU, has one of the largest simulation centers in the Middle East. Her goal is to transfer her unique simulation experience at STRATUS in simulation-based education, operations, research, business models, quality management, and leadership success stories to the PNU Simulation Center.

2021-2022

Abdulaziz Alburaidi, MD, KBEM

Dr. Abdulaziz Alburaidi came to STRATUS while serving as Chairman of the Emergency Department at the Farwaniya Hospital in Kuwait. He received his MBBS from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Since his fellowship at STRATUS, Abdulaziz has begun a new fellowship with Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Iman Alhmoudi, MD

Dr. Iman Alhmoudi served as Pediatric Program Director at Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi, UAE, prior to her fellowship at STRATUS. She received her MBBS from the University of Sharjah and completed her Pediatric residency at Mafraq Hospital.

Abdullah Altaweel, MBChB, KBEM

Dr. Abdullah Altaweel was born and raised in Kuwait. He obtained his medical degree from Aberdeen University, Scotland. He completed his Emergency Medicine residency from the Kuwait Institute for Medical Specializations (KIMS), and soon after was appointed Assistant Director of the emergency medicine residency program and Head of the Emergency Department at Adan Hospital, Kuwait.

After completing the STRATUS Fellowship, Dr. Altaweel went on to pursue a second fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Emergency Medicine Ultrasound.

STRATUS taught me that, above all, structure is probably one of the most important aspects of setting up simulation curricula, and the deeper message from that lesson is that, by extension, this can be implemented into almost all aspects of your career and personal life.

Sara Khonji, MD, NHRA

Dr. Sara Khonji earned her MD from the AMA International University. Her interest in medical simulation started while she was at the Arabian Gulf University as a facilitator. She attended many workshops, SimOPs courses, and even conducted her own simulation activities before starting her fellowship at STRATUS.

2020-2021

Maryam Al Nuaimi, MD, ABEM

Dr. Maryam Al Nuaimi came to STRATUS from Shaikh Kalifa Medical City, where she worked as a double boarded Emergency Medicine specialist. She was drawn to medical simulation during her residency and worked as a PALS instructor at the same institute. She serves as an Emergency Medicine physician at Shaikh Kalifa Medical City.

Ruqya Alzaabi, MD, ABEM

Dr. Ruqya Alzaabi is a Consultant in Emergency Medicine and the Simulation Lead at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City. She developed a passion for medical simulation while completing the Arab Board Emergency Medicine Residency Program in 2012. Dr. Alzaabi is also interested in Disaster Medicine and volunteered as part of the medical team in international events such as F1 Grand Prix.

Asma Arabi, RN, MMEd

Ms. Asma first developed a passion for healthcare simulation when she worked as teaching assistant at a clinical simulation center. She came to STRATUS after obtaining a master’s in medical education from the University of Dundee, UK. After the fellowship at STRATUS, she worked as a lecturer in clinical simulation and led the quality control unit at Riyadh clinical simulation center, King Saud bin Abdulaziz University for Health Sciences.

Munaa Dashti, MD, KBEM

Dr. Munaa Dashti is an Emergency Medicine physician at Amiri Hospital. She attended the Kuwait Hospital for Medical Specializations (KIMS). Following her fellowship at STRATUS, she went on to complete the Mass General Brigham International Fellowship in Emergency Ultrasound.

2019-2020

Reem Alansari, MD, MSc

Country: Bahrain
Specialty: Radiology

Dr. Reem Alansari received her MBBS from the College of Medicine at King Faisal University and her Master in Medical Education from Harvard Medical School. While in the program, she joined the staff of Harvard Medical School to teach a course on Medical Research Methodology. After her time with STRATUS she returned to the Arabian Gulf University as a Radiologist and Medical Educator.

Abdulrahman AlBalla, MBBS

Specialty: Trauma and Acute Care Surgery

Dr. Abdulrahman AlBalla completed his post-graduate surgical fellowship at the Vancouver General Hospital, University of British Columbia, where he helped run a resident-based clinical teaching service for Trauma and Acute Care General Surgery. He went on to practice as a General Surgeon at the Dr. Sulaiman Al Habib Medical Group in Saudi Arabia.

Ahmed Al Jaberi, MD

Dr. Ahmed Al Jaberi earned his medical degree from United Arab Emirates University. He completed his internship in Tawam hospital, an affiliate of Johns Hopkins Medicine International, and later joined an internal medicine residency program in Sheikh Khalifa Medical city in Abu Dhabi, UAE. Dr. Aljaberi was awarded a scholarship for distinguished scholars to continue his medical career in medical education and simulation.

Mohammed Basurrah, MBBS

Dr. Mohammed Bassurrah received his MBBS from the College of Medicine at King Abdulaziz University. He would go on to complete his general surgery residency at Taif University and is board certified in Otolaryngology and Head and Nek surgery. He went on to work as an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology at Taif University.

Wed AlMutairi, MBBS

Dr. Wed AlMutairi came to STRATUS as an Emergency Medicine Attending physician at the Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz Hospital. She completed her residency at the King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh and served on the Saudi Board of Emergency Medicine Certification. Dr. AlMutairi works as a Patient Service Coordinator at CityMed Hospital.

Baraa Tayeb, MBBS, MS, D.ABA, ABHPM, HM DC, CHSE

Dr. Baraa Tayeb is a Consultant and Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at King Abdulaziz University. He is a Diplomate of the American Boards of Anesthesiology, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, and Hospice Medical Directors. Dr. Tayeb is certified as a Healthcare Simulation Educator by the American Society of Simulation in Healthcare and has multiple peer-reviewed publications.

2017-2018

Abdulrahman Sabbagh, MBChB, FRCSC

Dr. Abdulrahman Sabbagh is an attending physician with over 12 years of experience in healthcare education and administration. In addition to the fellowship at STRATUS, Dr. Sabbagh attended the MGH Institute of Health Professions where he earned a master’s degree in health professions education. Dr. Sabbagh is co-founder of The Health Academy which focuses on vocational training to help transform the healthcare system in Saudi Arabia. He is also a clinical examiner for emergency medicine on the Saudi Board, Kuwaiti Board, and Arab Board. In addition to simulation, Dr. Sabbagh is passionate about sports medicine.

The most unique part about STRATUS is its people. Academically-speaking, I appreciate the learner-centered environment that enables learners to incorporate their personal learning outcomes into the designed ones.

Omar Shehab, MBBS

Dr. Omar Shehab received his medical degree from the United Arab Emirates University. He served as a Research Scholar at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Following his fellowship at STRATUS, Dr. Shehab served as a Pediatric Resident at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.

Mohammed Zaher, MBBS, SBEM

Dr. Mohammad Zaher is the Director of Academic and Training Affairs at Prince Mohammad bin AbdulAziz Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is an emergency medicine physician by training. His academic interests include improving residency training environments and low-cost simulation.

The learning, wealth of knowledge, and level of growth not just as a learner, but as a person, was surprising. It’s not every day that you get to work with such world-renowned faculty and leaders in their respective fields. I feel fortunate to have worked with and built relationships with them.

2015-2016

Loui Alsulimani, MBBS, SBEM, ABS-EM, HPEd

Dr. Loui Alsulimani is interested in medical education, clinical simulation, and health professionals training. He obtained a master’s degree in Health Professions Education from Massachusetts General Hospital and a Diploma of Professional Development in Teaching and Learning from King Abdulaziz University. In addition to the STRATUS Fellowship, Dr. Alsulimani completed a Disaster Medicine Fellowship at Harvard University.

Since completing the STRATUS Fellowship, Dr. Alsulimani has worked as an Emergency Medicine Consultant and Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine in the Emergency Department – Faculty of Medicine at King Abdul-Aziz University. He also serves as the University’s Director of Academic Affairs in the Clinical Skills and Simulation Center. In addition, Dr. Alsulimani is the head of the Disaster Medicine Section at the Saudi Society of Emergency Medicine.

Aida Darweish, MBBCh

Dr. Aida Darweish graduated with her MBBCh from Aden University and trained as a resident at the King Farhad Hospital in Emergency Medicine. She went on to serve as a Staff Physician in Emergency Medicine at King Abdulaziz Medical City and as an Assistant Consultant at the same hospital. Since leaving STRATUS, Aida has served as a Critical Care Fellow at Sunnybrook Hospital in Canada.

Abdullah AlMarshed, MD

Dr. Abdullah AlMarshed is the Chairperson of the Curriculum Development Department in CRESENT (Center of Research, Education, Simulation Enhanced Training) at King Fahad Medical City. He is a board member of the Saudi Society of Simulation in Healthcare and Chair of the Scientific Committee. He is also a board member at the Scientific Counsel of Emergency Medicine, and a member of the Exam Committee.

Shadi AlMoziny, MD, MBBS

Dr. Shadi Almoziny is a consultant physician in emergency medicine at King Fahad Medical City in Saudi Arabia. In addition to his 15+ years of clinical experience as an emergency physician, he serves as the chairperson of the Simulation Education Department at CRESENT (Center for Research, Education, and Simulation Enhanced Training) at King Fahad Medical City. Dr. Almoziny is also a member of the Advisory Committee for Trainer Development at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

Usamah Alzoraigi, MD

Dr. Usamah Alzoraigi serves on the board of the Saudi Society of Simulation Scientific Assembly. After his fellowship at STRATUS, he went on to serve as the Director of the CRESENT (Center of Research, Education, Simulation Enhanced Training) program at the King Fahad Medical City in Riyadh, and the Head of Anesthesia Scientific Council in Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

The STRATUS fellowship isn’t just about competency; there’s an underlying strategy designed to enhance personalities, develop connections, boost confidence, encourage innovators, and breed simulation leaders.

Ameera Cluntun, MBBS, SBEM

Dr. Ameera Cluntun is an an Emergency Medicine consultant. Following her fellowship at STRATUS, she received a master’s degree in Health Professions Education from the Mass General Hospital Institute of Health Profession. Dr. Cluntun serves as the Executive Director for Curriculum and Training at the Health Academy at the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

The fellowship opened a door into the community of simulation and education. It gave me a strong foundation to step on and expand my career.
